I love fishing topwater baits for both Largemouth and Smallies. My hookup rate isn't terrible but I'd like to hear if any of you have found hook upgrades that increase your hooking and landing percentage. Every little bit helps. I mostly fish a pop-r, spooks, and chugbugs. I suspect some of the more pricey baits come with excelent hooks, but I have a bunch of these oldies but goodies I'd like to use before buying the latest and gratest stuff.

My favorite was Excaliburs, the old style with the offset hooks. Recently I have used a couple of lures with Owner trebles on them. A couple of fish I caught should have not been hooked due to my slow reaction time. It was like the couldn't get them spit out! I think most of the newer trebles are pretty good other than the old standard hooks. Those Owners are like trying to spit out a sandbur though! Good luck!
