jmu can play football?

Featured Replies

I thought they were only responsible for producing playmate quality women, and free keggers.. Heh. Who knew they'd be competetive against a somewhat football school.

Only people who don't pay attention to FCS football!

2004 National Champs. #1 ranked team for the playoffs last year (eliminated in the semifinals to a team that got crushed in the finals by a team we already beat that year)

The CAA is on fire. Don't tell me it isn't the best conference in I-AA...Not arguable.

Richmond (defending FCS champ) beat Duke

William and Mary beat UVA

Villanova beat Temple

New Hampshire is beating Ball State

JMU is tied with Maryland

suck it ACC.

and now Jacksonville St. is beating FSU in the 4th...

As a man who grew up in Harrisonburg (JMU), and now resides outside of Greenville (ECU), I nominate this as post of the year! ;D

So far.

Let's see what happens next week.  :)

No offense to j maddy. But I was watching bigger games. But I wish I had watched that one.

Appalachian State has won more championships than ECU and JMU combined. How about y'all catch up in that category, and then we will start a trash talking thread?

Preach, did you know ECU paid us 300k just to come play? We win either way. I'm satisfied with the embarrassment of the comeback we showed.

I don't remember a lot of the ASU game, but we lost off a field goal kicked in the last 4 seconds. It was a pretty well matched game I thought.

The CAA is NOT the best conference in I-AA. You cannot be the best conference if you don't have the most championship wins. Stats don't lie dan, and the last game is the only game that counts.

No,no,no you can't join the trash talk until your team wins a game! an 0-2 team doesn't get to trash talk yet!

JMU got $300k for playing Maryland also. In ASU's defense, that was a good comeback against ECU and I wish they would have won.

I'm not talking about the past. I'm talking about right now. The CAA is a more competitive conference. You cannot argue that. The Southern may have more championships (most are from Georgia Southern from years and years ago) but in the past few years the CAA has a higher number of quality teams. Last year ASU would have finished 3rd or 4th in the CAA and the rest of the Southern would have finished 8th and below.

If the last game is the only one to count then the CAA is still better right now. We have the defending champion.

You don't get it! Being good "right now" gets you absolutely nothing. Being in a "competitive conference" gets you nothing. You cannot compare conferences to each other. Your conference is competitive just because every single team is equally average. The SoCon is not equally matched, but has the championships to PROVE it is the best conference.

Being good "right now" is EVERYTHING! I don't care how good ASU was years ago! Right now they are 0-2 and the CAA is home to the defending champion and has the most highly ranked teams.

I'm not saying we are competitive within the conference. Nonconference games have shown that CAA teams will beat most teams from EVERY conference, including yours (as evidenced by multiple games against ASU and Wofford). Two CAA teams beat ASU last year and one of them became the champion. Equally average=better than ASU last year? As far as concentration of good teams, the CAA is unarguable the best.

oh, and being a "competitive conference" does get you something...like 4 of the 8 at-large selections to go to the playoffs last year.. There are 8 conferences to chose 8 at-large selections from and HALF of those teams were taken from THE CAA!! 5 of the 16 teams in the playoffs were from the CAA. 4 of the final 8 teams were from the CAA. Two of the final four teams were from the CAA. The champion was a CAA team.

Only losers brag about the past because they don't currently have anything worthy of bragging about.

WHAT? Are you calling yourself a loser?

You don't get anything for beating other teams in other conferences, or for making the most playoff appearances. You don't get anything for having the most ranked teams.

You get trophies for National Championships.

Referring to the playoffs last year is just because there is not enough to refer to from this season yet. That is different than applying championships earned years ago to current teams.

And you are so insistent on the importance of national championships. Well the most recent NC is Richmond so therefore the CAA is the best. That is your logic, not mine.

Let's settle this with a bet. If a SoCon team wins the NC I will send you $20 worth of tackle. If a CAA team wins, you send me $20 worth of tackle?

If a team from neither conference wins then we both throw $20 worth of tackle into the lake  ;D

there is not enough to refer to from this season yet.

That's kind of been my point the whole time, Dan. You were saying pre-season that the CAA had the best conference. You are saying now they have the best conference. I like to take a step back where there are YEARS of evidence that the SoCon is the best conference. Is the CAA the best conference right now? Maybe so, but you can't prove it. Is the SoCon the best conference in the history of the FCS? Yes, we have more trophies than you.

I never said Richmond wasn't the best team right now. They obviously were 2 weeks ago, since they just won a National Championship. Are they now? Nobody knows.

I never said a team from the SoCon was going to win the NC this year., and I never said a team from the CAA wasn't going to win a NC. I'm not arguing that.

You are arguing for now, which their are no accolades or trophies for. Hell, even if the CAA DID win the NC this year, y'all are still waaaaay behind. Lol

Since when has Maryland been somewhat of a football school?  They are barely a basketball school anymore.  If they lose that, they might as well close the place down.    Dan don't get too excited, your just facing ACC teams.

CAA was better last year as well as shown by the playoff selections and results.

But yeah, I can understand the argument for the SoCon all time. What I have been trying to argue is that right now (last year and this year--wait and see) the CAA is the strongest conference as far as average team quality.

and 1inStripes, you're right, but it's still a FBS team from an "OK" conference. Anytime a FCS team beats an FBS team it is big, regardless of how highly ranked the FBS team is.

I dont disagree with you Dan just ribbin' you and the ACC fans on here.  I've always liked FCS teams beating FBS because UT hadn't played one since around 81, but they open with one next year so I won't pull for one then.

I think it's great when FCS teams beat FBS teams. They usually get paid a lot of money because the FBS teams think they will be easy wins to get them to bowl games. It's great when they get a loss on their record AND lose that money!

I dislike FBS teams that schedule FCS teams for easy wins. I think it's really lame. I've noticed a lot of the Big12 teams do that (although a lot of teams from other conferences do it as well). I think Texas Tech scheduled TWO FCS teams last year...

Thats one thing I was proud of with Tennessee but next year they open with UT-Martin I believe it is.  One thing was it kept the money in state I reckon, but I would much rather they play another FBS school, preferrably to me a little competition.   I've always ragged on VT for that issue.  Florida likes to schedule FCS as well.
