Got to finally fill a dream this week -As good as it gets

Featured Replies

I have known Roland Martin for years . He has been an idol for as long as I can rememer. Roland has always been nothing but a gentleman to me. When you get to know him he is actually one of the funniest guys you could hang out with. He is a big kid. He is actually 68 years old and acts like the guys you hang out with. He and his wife Judy actually invited my son ,my sister and myself down. I asked where would be a good hotel to stay. She said BS you are staying with us. She took my son and sister to all kinds of attractions -the beach-boat rides you name it. She is a wonderful lady and I love her to death. She treated us like family. Roland and I went and did the guy thing-shooting Fishing With Roland Martin- I had a blast. We were there for 4 days. When I went into the house it was like a museum.Im 46 and was like a kid. All of the trophies-Angler of the Year awards . hunting stuff. It was amazing - all of the people that knew Roland, sports celebs-Presidents you name it. I was there with the legend.Roland treated me like a king.I dont want to hear anything about oh you're a sponsor -you are paying him crap. This was the true Roland. I consider him a friend-he treated my 6year old son Eddie like a grandkid. It even blew me away. Ya know I mentioned he is 68 and looks great and in great shape -he was a pioneer with wealths of knowledge about the environment and sad to say the politics of our industry. I just wanted to let you know that it was one of the top highlights of my life and when people say things about him that could just be hearsay- come talk to my son -he will tell you about the real Martins. Thanks Bobby@Megastrike- To my son and I "Roland Martin is The Greatest Angler Of All Time"

That had to be a pretty cool experience.  i'm jealous, but I'm happy for you and your family.  That is better than 10 trips to disney world.

Thank you very much for sharing that info about Roland and his wife.

that is awesome, Bobby! we all *** the fact that you had this great opportunity and it's even better to hear what a polite and fun guy he is. sometimes when we meet celebrities it's very disappointing how rude and "caught up in the lifestyle" they are - so it's nice to hear about the "real people". Long live Roland Martin!

Ya know I did ask him about the Rocket Fisherman" He said Bobby, it was designed to be a toy for kids to have fun with and get them to the lakes and outdoors. It is not a tournament grade anything. It was made for little kids to have fun with and catch sunfish and stuff. I said ya know thats a good enough answer for me

Very cool.  People rip on him for over playing his sponsers on a show that they wouldn't be seeing if it wasn't for his sponsers.  Hell, you can't even go to see a movie that you have to pay $12 for with out sitting though countless plugs for computer, clothing, and automobile companies.  Heck, there are even sponser ads all over my screen as I am typing this.  Anyhow, that is cool that you got a chance to go out there.  I'm jealous.

That is really cool, sounds like one great family. I am a huge Scott Martin fan and I hope to meet him one day.

you are so lucky, I would love a chance to fish with Roland Martin.  There is always an extra seat in my boat for him to catch smallies.
