Florida trip

Featured Replies

Me and the entire family is coming down to Davenport, FL for a week to enjoy Disney World and all the other wonderful things Wisconsin cannot give us.  Coming down at the end of May 2010 and us guys are determined to do some fishing no matter what.  Problem iseverybody else wants to go as well.  Sonow I'm thinking about doing some pier fishing off some beach in that wayeverybody from us guys, wives, and kids can all enjoy the time together as a family.

I don't want to travel too far, so is there any recommendations as to where I may be able to do something like this with the family?  Any other recommendations as to what's worth taking a look during my time down there would be appreciated as well, thanks!

i believe the closest beach from orlando is indiatlantic beach. i would suggest going on a drift boat, where you pay the fee and they supply the gear and bait. the problem with pier fishing is i don't know if the peir supplies gear. good luck and have fun.

Sounds Good, stay safe and have fun.

Port Canaveral has a pretty decent pierand great jetties to fish.Nice little beach next to it. I would check out Kennedy Space Center if your that close. It's free entry and incredible!

Sebastien Inlet state park has an awesome catwalk over inlet and pier/jetty. Has great beach next to it. Redfish, snook and shark. Well worth the drive.

Cocoa has a good inlet and jetty fishing/beach as well.

Davenport is about as far away from the salt water as you can get in Florida. About an hour and a half to Daytona or Cocoa on the east coast and the same to Clearwater or Saratota on the west. All of them have the "party style" charters that supply everything for around 40 bucks a head.  I would not put down a deposit because that time of year the weather is pretty volatile and you might want to choose your coast based on wind direction.

As for fresh water Winter Haven is only a few minutes away and most of the lakes have a city park and boat ramp with a small pier and rest rooms. Lake Hartridge is my personal favorite.

Other things to look at, St Augustine, Cape Canaveral, Air boat tours out of Camp Mack (Kissimmee) would all make a nice family day trip.

If you are going Disney there is some fantastic fishing right in the park.  The lakes in the park offer some excellent bass fishing.  They have guided trips right there.  I can't imagine it being cheap but I have had some buddies who have gone and caught some hogs.  good luck

There is also some Fish farmer in Kissimmee raising the Australian Barramundi. You can google it and find it pretty quick. He lets you fish em for a fee. Summer is best for them.

Awesome feedbacks!

I'm in charge of activities so I'm trying to do as much research as I can and narrow things down...find out which places/activities our group is willing to do and go to.

Thanks for your recommendations...and keep'em coming!
