New at freshwater fishing. Very clear water fishing

Featured Replies

I live in a neighborhood that has an old rock quarry that was flooded and made into a lake. There are many good sized fish in this lake, but i can't catch many of them. You can see down a good 15 foot to the bottom. I have caught many 1 to 2 pounders on senko's buzzbaits, and t-rigged worms and lizards, but it seems like they won't even look at anything else. What could i try? thanks

I have tried that, but i just use my kayak to fish and i can't find much structure except what i can see. It gets like no fishing pressure except from my friends and I, but they are very skittish. I don't know what to do.

Might wanna try a 4 or 5 inch finesse worm, french fry, or centipede on a carolina rig.  I also really like shakey head jigs and *** in clear water.

If you're fishing from a kayak, you can get a depthfinder for it for under a hundred bucks.  There is also one called a fishing buddy made by humminbird.  I think I saw them at Bass Pro shops a few weeks ago.  I'm probably going to put one on my canoe for backwater fishing.

Is it portable? meaning it runs off AA batteries. It is a whitewater kayak, but it is all i got. I would like to get a better kayak for fishing, but no money right now.

I would try a flashy jerkbait. Jerkbaits are great for very clear water. ;)

Don't give up on the drop shot. It is deadly in clear water. Also try a shakey head.

All the baits mentioned will work.  I'd be partial to a 3X Z Too jerkbait and a variety of keel weighted hooks, since you'll be able to adjust the depth/fall rate easily and have a ton of durability.  Arkansas Shiner or Ice colors.

I think, and I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet, your line selection should be mentioned.  Flouro seems appropriate here.  I'd run a light braid (for castability) with a flouro leader.

I'd also back off as far as you can from the fish, especially in clear water, and concentrate on making long, soft-landing casts.

My favorite color for clear water is watermelon/red flake, followed by green pumpkin, if that helps.

It sounds like you've already found something that works. I'd stick with that. The bass have told you what they want. I'd say keep giving it to 'em!
