Shakey Head & Drop Shot

Featured Replies

I'm trying to learn these two new techniques.  I've got most of the stuff I need to do it (and the rest is in the mail).  But I have some stupid questions:

1.  Do you just shake a shakey head? :-[  Or, do you pop it, drag it, etc...? :-/

2.  Do you just drop a drop shot? :-[  Or, do you pop it, drag it, etc...? :-/

I need some help guys. :(

I don't know about the drop shot as i don't  use that technique, but for shakey head you can experiment with each type of presentation to see what they want. I've caught lots of bass shaking, hopping slowly, and dragging... it really depends on what they are looking for. I would try all 3 and see what is working.

I'd imagine it would be the same thing for drop shots but like i said i don't have too much experience with drop shotting

I work a shaky head like a texas rig, but I just work it alot slower.  Alot of people shake the fire out of the "shaky head" because they think that is why it is called that, but my best results have been very small lift and drops and every so often given it a few jiggles on slack line.

For the drop shot, I usually fish it vertically and when it hits the bottom, I will shake and pause, shake and pause on slack line.  When I'm casting it out and fishing it horizontally, I work it just like the shaky head.

Good luck!

I try to avoid fishing a drop shot vertically at all costs because I cannot stand doing it.  But it works.  Most of the time when I'm fishing a drop shot, I use it just like a carolina rig.  I'll pause it when I feel a large rock or a brush pile or whatever down there.  I may shake it a little or give it loose line then ease it tight while I'm holding it there, but most of the time I just keep the line tight and let it sit.

For shaky head presentations, I agree with senko77.  I fish it EXACTLY like I'd fish a texas rig 90% of the time.  I'll hop it once or twice and let it sit there for a few seconds.  Repeat.  I'll sometimes shake it when I'm raising the rod and sometimes I'll gently shake it a few times while it's sitting there.  Most of my bites come on either the inital fall or when the lure falls down a vertical break or a piece of cover/structure.  I haven't had many hit it while it was sitting still on the bottom, but I don't leave it there for very long either.

Check out Youtube.com and type in shakey head and drop shot. I have watched a lot of instructional videos on there. I tried to look it up for you but unfortunatley I am at work on a computer that does not have the upgraded version of javascript so I couldn't leave you the link.

Good Luck fishing your new technique :(
