It just not meant to be...

I was absolutely ready for this accounting test, went in sat down and proceed.

We had to create an amortization table for premium and discount on bonds and I knew how to do this stuff in my sleep..And for some dumb reason I saw bond issued in 2010 mature in 2017 and being semiannual I used 14 as number of periods..and right when I walked out (this was last question I did before turning it in) I stop and said "OH SH#$!!" It's suppose to be 16 as number of periods. There goes 15 points and I knew how to do it only I made a careless error without taking my time..

It really frustrating when you actually know how to do it and you do something careless like that and as result I'm probably going to make a C and might be hell trying get a B in that class.... I hope the other two 16 points questions were 100% correct... :-/

Anybody want to go to Key West and fly fish for Tarpon? I need get my mind off of this...

I hear ya man I just took that test a couple of weeks ago, I have my next accounting test next monday. I'm not prepared for it yet. Accounting is a tough class. No doubt about that.

But good luck with the rest of the semester.

Better to goof up on a test than to do it once you've graduated!  It does happen.

When I sold my building a few years ago, the buyer's banker who happened to be the local VP, had a number of mistakes typed into the paperwork.  Had I not insisted in seeing these papers prior to the closing, the buyer would have had to spend close to $5k more!

And yes, I did enjoy pointing out those errors to the buyer.

It just really frustrating when I unintentionally make careless mistakes and we're suppose to be attentive to details when calculating these numbers. It just going prevent me from making an A when I actually know how to do it. I wish they give do over test so you can show that you learned from your mistakes and get credit for it. Employers like seeing your GPA on resume when getting an intern and without intern it be even harder get into the door...

I do have a job interview at a bank Wednesday.

Had something similar happen to me a week back. I'm pretty sure I contracted H1N1 or something because I was bedridden with a fever of 103.2 or so. Unfortunately, I had a Corporate Finance exam that week, but I was too delirious and confused to study for it properly. I was sick over the weekend, and the exam was on Tuesday. Unfortunately for me, this professor does not give make-up exams due to illness or emergencies. Instead, he has an optional final that you can take and use that grade to replace a missed exam or a lower grade on a previous exam. I figured that I might as well give my first exam a shot since doing bad on it would be the same as not taking it because either way I would have to rely on the optional final.

So basically, I had all of Tuesday morning to sort of "study" for the exam that afternoon, since I was way too sick over the weekend and Monday to do anything at all. I was still sick Tuesday, but had recovered enough to be able to read without having my vision blur. I was still coughing like crazy, and it was a dry hacking cough. I knew I would probably get kicked out of the exam if I kept coughing like that, so I downed half a bottle of cough syrup to stop the coughing and walked into the exam. I typically can get away with that without experiencing any negative side effects. The funny part is that my mom bought me that cough syrup (I stayed home for the weekend to try and beat the flu), and it turned out that this specific syrup had a higher concentration of Dextromethorphan in it than typical syrups. So I basically walked into the exam unintentionally robotripping. I ended up not even making it to the last problem because I took so darned long on each problem due to my brain just crapping out every few minutes from the syrup.  :D

It happnes to all of us - no matter what we are doing - one suggestion though would be to go to your instructor and tell him/her what you did wrong and how you would correct it - you may not get all of the points but it might help - can't hurt.

Don't worry in the REAL world you'll have nice programs that DON'T forget and take care of all the details. In the end as long as you know what's going on is all that matters.

I would take you up on the Key West  thing, but my trip down there for Tarpon is not until June for the worm hatch if I can catch it.  I'll be there for the Seafood Festival in Marathon March 13-16, might actually wet a line off the beach or the boat if I trailer it.

My midterm grade is a B-. I might still be able to make an A-, but long as I'm more careful on the next two tests I'll walk away with a B maybe A..I'll get over it eventually. lol. I think it cause I put too much pressure on myself to succeed..
