any macbook users out there?

Recommended Posts

Just got a MacBook Pro for my birthday and I'll be honest, I'm in a bit over my head! Trying to get everything set up has been a task and a half. I'm just so used to my old Dell I'm having a hard time learning the ropes of my Mac.

Anybody else have the same sorta problem? Or am I just technologically challenged? :-/

I had a Mac and loved it.

Had to switch over to PC due to clients having PCs.

Now I want to go back to Mac as Mac can do both Mac and PC.

Bocabasser is right. You will love the Mac and not want to go back to the retarded PCs.  ;)

I have a Macbook and an Imac. I will never buy a pc ever again. Give it a week and you will be fine, and asking yourself why you didn't switch sooner. I do run VMWare and Win7 on my macbook since I need to use a lot of windows crap for my IT program. I want a MacPro with the 12 core processor but it is like 20 grand with all the stuff I want in it....

Yeah man, Macbooks are the way to go for sure! It takes a little getting used to when switching from a PC but once you're used to it, you'll find it to be better than PC's. I kind learned the ropes of a Mac in middle school where we had a "multimedia" class and we would basically just mess around on the computers (mostly iMovie and Garageband) and again in high school when I took "digital art" (Photoshop and Illustrator). Not long after using the Macs in high school did I want one of my own! The multi-touch trackpad is still fun to use and some of my PC-owning friends here in college find it fascinating  :o

You have to become a regular at Starbucks now that you have a Macbook.

Oh and Google becomes a pretty close friend during this process of getting used to a Mac.

My sister has a macbook and I use it pretty frequently they are awesome little computers. The only thing is you can get a PC with the same exact specs. for a fraction of the price. I guess Mac's are less problem prone. I'm contemplating if I should get a MBP or a PC laptop for college.  :-?

hookinem, usually around summertime (or maybe all year-round, I'm not sure) you'll see Apple have an offer where they'll give a discount or some sort of deal if you can prove that you are buying a MacBook for college (acceptance letter basically covers it). Like this past summer I recall that you could get a free iPod touch with a purchase of a MacBook. I'd imagine that in this coming summer they will offer a deal or incentive if you buy a MacBook for college as well.

And drive a VW.   ;D

I've got a macbook & an iMac.  Absolutely love them both.  It always sucks having to use a pc at work now.

Can they run Crysis at 30+ FPS? No? Sorry...not interested. ;)

Nothing against Mac, though. They build a quality product.

Yeah they are definitely not your gamers computer.  They sure work great for my music & video rec/editing though.

Mac's and PC's are both great computers.

Hands down the Mac is the best user computer, if you just want a problem free machine a Mac is the way to go.

PC is best for those who like to customize their stuff and don't want to be told what they can and can't run.

I'm a PC guy I've used macs but I'll never own one.

Haha. It's kind of true though. If you walk into a Starbucks, I bet 75% of the computers will be Macs.

Why not just virtualize it using Parallels and VMware Fusion?

You'll get use to it.. I have a Pro too. If anyone else is going to get a Mac tell them you are a teacher they will give you a discount. I got a discount because my GF is a teacher..  BTW Starbucks is the worst.. TIM HORTON'S baby!

Well turns out I was making everything way more complicated than it shoulda been. Some of my buddies here at school have macs and they showed me how to customize it an all that. An yall are right, I wish I'd had this thing 2 years ago! It's awesome

Something I'm havin a heard time learning though is the imovie. I'd really like to learn how to make some simple picture slideshow movies with music. What would be the best way to learn how to use it?

Thanks!

I love my mac as much as the next guy, but I'd still recommend getting VMware or even dual booting.  I still run Microsoft office too.  I hate Pages.

And a word of advice to anyone looking to buy a new Mac:  buy refurbished.  You'll save a ton.
