Rainy days

Featured Replies

It has been raining a lot here for the past month.  Was wondering when it is best to fish as far as rain is concerned.  Would you recomend before, during, or after a rain storm?  Also, what lures work best in the rain?

Conventional wisdom says that after the storm is the worst time of the three you mentioned.

Most lures that work will also work in the rain, although I'd be inclined to use lures that are a little noisier than real quiet stuff like soft plastics, although they'll work too. But I'd favor crankbaits, spinnerbaits, Chatterbait-style and topwaters, such as buzzbaits.

I would go with Rattle Traps, Buzzbaits, and other noisy baits first and if that doesnt work then just go with what you have confidence in. If you have confidence in buzzbaits and rattletraps, even better 8-)

Marty is correct.

If you can find out the time the cold front will be moving through your area try to fish it a few hours before the front moves through.

When the front arrives and then passes, the fish have already stuffed themselves.

As for baits, Marty is correct, again.

I like spinnerbaits when it rains, or any topwater due to the commotion the rain and wind will make on the surface.

Colors?  I like black with lots of vibration or rattle.

Just my prefernces.

Please be watchful of lightning and have some fun.  :)

Thanks guys!

I prefer to fish before or during the rain. The clouds and rain make it a lot

harder for the Bass to see you or get a real good look at your topwater lures. My favorites are Spinnerbaits or shallow running Crankbaits.
