When I was a kid, fished for Crappie with my parents using live minnows all the time. GREAT tasting fish! Had to wait till I was grown to catch the 2 largest Crappie ever. Not on the same day but same lake. Caught both while Bass fishing using 1/4 oz. white spinner bait with 6" red curly tail worm trailer. Was a wonder didn't rip bait loose setting the hook thinking it must be Bass. That's quite a mouth full for a Crappie even for a big'un :o...

Nice one.  :)

How did it taste? I've never eaten crappie before.

Jake,

As I've said before, both of my parents loved to fish and we went all the time. My Daddy liked the taste of Bream and my Momma would rather have had Crappie. Always had a freezer full of both. I could hurt myself on either. If cooked right (grease hot enough) Crappie has only the slightest of fish taste. It is really a white, flakey and light tasteing fish. If large enough to fillet and then cut into 2 finger size it is light enough for breakfast food ...

Nice 2lber.  I caught my first ever Black Crappie yesterday.  1lb 6oz on a Rapala Xrap 10cm.   I thought it was a bass right up until he jumped.  We ran over some suspended schools of fish on the depth finder so I lowered my rod tip all the way down into the water to get my lure down to about 8-10 ft.  Ended up with 6 of them weighing 5 lbs collectively.

What's the easiest way to cook this guy?

Well a few things to be mentioned.

Judging by the color and scale configuration of this fish it was caught sometime in early late April.

I noticed that the grain of the wood is impure and the carpet is dingy which tells me you did not catch this at lake Elmer Thomas.

Lastly I noticed this fish is not smiling which tells me he was caught on live bait.

lol just kidding nice fish!
