Gaffing Saltwater fish question

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I have a question about using a gaff for brining fish into the boat while saltwater fishing.  This may seem like a silly question but I wasnt sure of the answer.

I dont do any saltwater fishing but I do watch it on TV every once and a while.  Well the show I was watching was talking about the benifits of catch and release, but then later on in the show I see them using a gaff to bring a tuna into the boat.  They didnt show what they did with the fish after it was in the boat though.

My question is if all gaffed fish are harvested.  I just cant see how they would use the hook then release the fish again into the sea with the blood and damage.

Thanks for any help on this.  Just my curiosity.
