I came up with this recipe a while ago for the bluegills at my local park. it worked very well!

this works just as good as nightcrawalers and its a lot cleaner on your fingers than nightcrawlers too.

the recipe:

5 parts flour

2 parts garlic powder or garlic salt

3 parts vegetable oil

thats it. mix the flour and garlic powder together while they're still dry. then add the oil and knead into dough.

works great. try it if you ever take little kids bluegill fishing.

I'll try it with the kids this weekend,We have been using raw bacon.

It's great..... also, you can catch 10 or so gills before they get the bacon off the hook.

Aint nothin that a waxworm can't do.Best BG bait I ever used.

This stuff is harder to make than i thought....i can't get it to stay hard enough that it would stay on the hook.

However i did a little investigating last night and you can put it in microwave for 30 seconds,pull of an end piece and if it's a little hard it's perfect if not reheat another 10-15 seconds till you get a hard play dough like texture.

once you microwave it, does it stay hard?

Sorry i'm late on this,I have no idea if it stays hard once it goes in the water or not.I haven't been fishing lately.However i cooked it with just plain flour and water.The oil wasn't working for me.

Another idea of mine is add some bread crumbs...bluegills love bread so it would make sense to add it.

I'm gonna try and give this a go this weekend and see if i can get them to hit it.Also to see how well it works or not.

reason for using flour/oil instead of flour/water is because flour/oil isnt water soluable. if you put flour/water on your hook, as soon as it gets wet it will just go mush and fall off the hook WAY too easily. with oil, the water doesnt mix with the bait and it holds its shape and stays on the hook.

im not sure if breadcrumbs are really necessary, after all, the bait is practically bread itself, but you could try it!

I'll try to give it a try.They are calling for rain all weekend. I doubt i'm gonna be fishing in 50's and rain.I get sick way too easy.

I just want to test it to see if cooking them in the microwave will allow it to not dissolve once it hits the water.
