When I was a teenager living in Florida I used to catch bowfin and gar for the fun of it. Gar can be extremely hard to hook because of their hard bony mouths. Here's a great lure you can make to catch them. Cut a piece of white braided rope about 4" long and wrap tie it to a 1/0 size hook. Fray and unravel the rope. The frayed rope gets tangled in the gar's teeth and they can't throw the lure. The hook can be cut off of the shank if you wish, but you never know when a bass, crappie or other fish might strike, and then you'll want that hook.    Happy fishing.

I just when out and mad one from yellow and white nylon with a 1/0 rather rust hook, I'll show you once I get AAA batteries for my camera.

I imagine white and yellow will work. The object is to make it look like a shiner minnow. Have fun catching gar. Don't have them here. Catch some for me.     Happy fishing.     ;D
