I went ice fishing today, was good to be out fishing, even though it wasn't from my boat.  Went for a couple of hours this afternoon at my favorite smallie place 20 min away.  We only got the one (a rainbow trout), but we are going back Monday morning.

I haven't been out yet...but i'm heading upstate next weekend to get out on some hard water.

I have been out about 10 days so far. I have gotten big brook trout, big perch, big pickerel, and no bass. I have been nailing the fish though.

I went out twice.  First day-caught 1 bass, lost a second (or I'm sure it was a bass anyway) and caught 6 bream.  The second day I couldn't buy a strike.  I went out to another pond and near the shore the ice was around 4 inches thick but then I went out to where I wanted to fish and the auger punched through after only an inch and a half of drilling.  I got the heck out of there!  There must be some underground springs feeding that pond.

Nice trout.  That'll be good table fare.  Yum!

I have been several times since that pic and only caught one more.  it was about 2 pounds.  The other guys I have been going with have caught some 5 pounders.  One of them keeps making fun of me because I can not catch trout very well.  I told him I would get even this summer when I do all the catching off the bass boat fishing for smallies.

IDbasser, I'm sure that's just their idea of positive reinforcement. ;D

I am sure it is his way of getting even.  I had him out one day and he got skunked while I caught my PB smallie.  I hear about it all the time.

I am sad because I will not get another chance to go ice fishing this season. :'( I miss it, but then there is open water. I caught my first ice crappie and I learned how to use the auger.
