Garfishing

Featured Replies

There are a lot of people around here that bow.fish for them but I do not. Its pretty hard to catch them too, you can spend all day, get three bites and say you had a good day with them. Nice thing is that if you connect with one of those bites you prob looking at 50-200# fish.

Yea that's on my list of things to do, I would like to shoot one sometime as well.

I have no idea what species we have here in Nc but im pretty sure it wasn't an alligator gar.

I hate to sound like a broken record but are they nocturnal? I havn't come up with this information from search engines.

Also, do they live in ponds?

They can be caught at night but most guys I know catch them during the day. We catch them best May until late September down here. The hotter the water the better the garring. The is a local guide down here that could answer all your questions. http://www.westpointlakegargrabbers.blogspot.com/

As far as I can tell they are like most other fresh water predator species, and they will bite at night. Come to think of it, I don't know of one that will not. Anyone else?
