Outer Banks, NC

Featured Replies

I am going on a family vacation next month to the Outer Banks, NC. We have rented a house on the beach in Duck for a week and would like to do some fishing with my Dad while we are down there.

Does anyone have any recommendations for some inshore charter services? I may also want to try some surf fishing on my own if you have suggestions on where and what to use for that as well.

Thanks

Surf fishing is not so great during the summer but you can still catch some fish. I've caught blues skates, and flounder in the summer. As for what to use--just go to a local tackle shop and ask. They will help you out. Typically, surf fishing down there involves very long rods and bottom rigs (large weight attached to a wire contraption that has two or more hooks) with squid or mullet (usually frozen) but there are a variety of options.

If you want to do some bassin, shoot me a PM and I will let you know of some largemouth ponds in the area.

For surf fishing use shrimp. Live shrimp is even better. Expect to catch many sharks, they are about to spawn or they already have. I don't remember. Most of the best charters are out of Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, and Emerald Isle. Usually you can walk around the slips and pick the one you want. I've been on several by at least 3 different companies and haven't been disappointed. The only company name I can remember is Captain Stacy.

Oh, several charters post fishing reports on NCAngler.com. Ask there and you'll get a really good answer. Those guys know what they are doing.

I just realized Duck is really far North. Oops....

Ask on NCAngler.com.
