First time trout fishing... help.

Featured Replies

I've always wanted to go trout fishing and decided its about time to give it a try, I have no idea where to start.

Is the trout bite at least decent this time of year? I dont have a fly rod set up, so what would be the best tackle ( i was thinking spinning with little spoons and inline spinners) I live in rochester NY, what waters should i look for this time of year? any tips or info would be great. Thanks!

I use a 6 1/2' light action spinning outfit with 6 lb test.  Inline spinners are a good choice.  I like Blue Fox's and Roostertails.  Small Mepps are a good choice as well.  A real trout slayer that I really like is a 1/4 oz silver Kastmaster.  If you're fishing in a stream, cast upstream and really burn it down.  Larger trout can be had on bass crankbaits.  I caught a 17 1/2"er while smallmouth fishing on a Hot Lips.  Hope this helps!

If stream fishing, i like getting a small hook maybe like #3 and some Roe and drifting it down on a small split shot maybe 14 inches above it.  I kill on this! Cast up a little and let it drift into a little eddie, and they will ****** those things up so quick.

buy some micro lites rod from basspro or wally marshall crappie rod which is

4'6" and it is ml

get some sonic spinners and panther martins and u will be good to go

i caught a 3 lb rainbow trout on sonic spinner white color
