Scumfrog Trophy Series

Featured Replies

Hey, I bought a Trophy Series scumfrog and they have a weight added to the back of it, which makes the end of it sink and the head stick out of the water. Can you fish this the same way as any other topwater frog. Or because of the back end sinking like this must you fish it a different way?

The ScumFrog does not sink. It is more like the back end is floating on the water and the top is out of the water, looks kinda like this / Give it a pull and it will Lay flat ___ then it bobbles up to its natural position. Just cast it over weed beds or in willy pads and jerk it to the boat. I don't have much experience with the ScumFrog but I do own it. Just make sure to empty out some water that does get trapped inside of it or it will sink.

With the weight keeping the head up, this frog is very easy to retrieve on a "walk the dog" pattern.  You can also just bring the frog straight towards you with a series of short jerks that will cause the frog to bob.  I like these frogs better than any of the others I have used.

Correct.  The counterweight helps the head to stay up, and it rocks forward on the retrieve like a Sammy, making the bait easier to work.  I purchased some Kanji frogs from Backwaters a couple of months ago, and they are hands down the best frogs I have ever used in terms quality and ease of working the bait.  Here a few pics...

Do those Kanjis have a single hook? If so, what is your hookup percentage? Do you miss many fish?

Sorry if I hijacked the post.

Yes it is a single hook, albiet a razor-sharp, 8x hook.  My hookup percentage with the fish that actually take it down has been great, but as you know, fish miss the frog half the time.

THANK'S FOR THAT ANSWER....I WAS GOING TO ASK THE SAME QUESTION...GLAD I READ THE WHOLE THREAD...LOL
