Was fishing a Tournament on the Columbia River and hooked what I thought was the new record Smallie....Nose down...Digging...Nervous then it rolled on the surface....It was a 12 lb 2 oz.  Carp!!! Great fighter!!! DropShot to the top of the mouth on 8 lb Izorline!!

Pulled out two carp at a private pond that went 14lbs 2oz and 12lb 10oz on a 3ft mini ultra lite with 6lb test.  It made for one heck of a fight and was lots of fun.

I actually pulled a gag on a friend fishing just within earshot that it was a giant smally and went to hold it up for him to see and let it fall to the deck, and into the water.....He was absolutely beside himself in grief for me that I had lost a big fish that he had asked to see!!!

So I live in the desert now of Nevada - NO BASS

But I have found a little part of the Humboldt River that opens up to a (Semi) dam, and there are CARP

So I guess im now fishing for carp. Have caught a few and am looking for big uns. Only 5 Carp at this time and all were 2-4 lbs just little ones but I can see them jump EVERYWHERE.

Any Recomendations - how can you tell if there are larger ones in the area im fishing? I have just been using my Shamano Symetry FJ on Medium action Quantum Rod, 8lb Pline Riged with a 1/4-1/2 Oz sinker (depending on wind) small glass bead (To not damage the Swivle) than a #10 Swivle where ill palmer knot a #4 Eagle claw (with the leader alredy attached)

Worms have been my bait but im looking up some Dough ball Recipees as I type this - Anyone give me some more pointers?

Are they like bass who hang arround structure or just swim the bottom of the pond / River

i was fishing at a public lake when i was about 12 years old just using nightcrawlers and casted in the middle of a weed bed about 15 ft out and set the pole down about ten minutes later it started to drag across the ground so i set the hook and it ran into the middle of the lake i was using my friends pole with 8 lb line and no drag. it took me about a half hour and i finally got it in it was a 36 inch carp with a huge girth we guessed between 20-25 lbs but it was a great fight
