Sponsor question

I was not sure where to put this, but what do you think would happen if your boat sposor found out you weere selling a competing brand. Like sponsored by Ranger and selling both Ranger and Phoenix boats.

Do you own your own dealership ?

This was a local dealer here in NC. He has been sposored by Ranger for at least the last 15 years. He was only carrying Genmar boats,  I just saw on his website where he is now offering Phoenix boats for sale. This is a man who pretty much flys the Ranger flag. It would seem to take away from Ranger sales by doing this. In turn would you not think that Ranger might have something to say aboout this?

Unless Ranger,Genmar, or who ever owns them now owns the dealership they have no say in the matter. Look at the auto dealers that sell multiple lines of autos. The guy is just trying to offer a selection for his customers. Right now the Ranger flag might not be worth flying.

I guess you are right about selling what ever he wants becasue it is his. But you do not see to many ford dealers selling Chevy or Dodge. I guess the way I was  looking at, is  that even though you own the dealership out right, it may affect your sponsors. Kinda like Sposored by ABU but selling Daiwa at you shop. With your name being associated with one company and selling the other it seem like a conflict of intrest.

I would think that if a sponsor (in this case Ranger) is worried about a situation like this, they would spell it out in the sponsorship agreement.  Everyone would have a clear understanding up front about things of this nature.  I am not all that familiar with fishing sponsorships, but in other arenas the sponsorship agreement is just for what is advertised in competition, public appearances, etc.  That being said, it is no stretch of the mind to believe a sponsor would love it if they were the only brand you had anything to do with ever!

EVERY dealership in this area sells more than one line of boats. Several have as many as 5-6 different lines

There are two different situations going on here.  You need to look at it that way.  There is a competitive fisherman who is sponsored by Ranger and there is a business owner who is trying to put food on the table by selling multiple brands.  As long as A doesn't affect B or vice versa, there shouldn't be a problem.
