Tournament Idea...What do you guys think

Featured Replies

I have heard many stories about the pro anglers buying information. I don't know how to take this but if it is true I am very disappointed. BUT I have an idea for a tournament series to eliminate this and find out who really knows their stuff. I would also like to do this around my area and see how it turns out, I don't want anyone to think I am picking on them so please take this with a grain of salt!!!!!

First the series will be 5 lakes.

No co-anglers

No marshals

5 Rods

The anglers would not know the lake they were fishing until Thursday before for travel time.

The lake wouldn't be any fished on FLW or BASS, but a neutral site so everyone has the same thing to deal with.

One day tournament, best 5 fish.

Then at the end of the series we will know who really can figure out a pattern and put it together in a day, and do it consistently.

What does everyone think???

I would like to compete in a tournament series like this in my area, how about you guys?

I wouldn't think they would buy info when all they have to do is go on Bass Resource.com.

alot of people will give info free willingly, but it would be cool to pick a lake at random not listed on a schedule.

Fishing as a sport is very hard to get spectators to watch it live.

Giving the public  a 24 hr notice just made it even harder to bring our sport to the public.

5 rods???????   I wouldn't want a mechanic trying to fix my car with just "5" tools to get the job done.

And if  theres info, 24 hrs isn't gonna stop them from "buying it or asking"  for it either if thats what they need to do.

Why no marshalls, surely you don't think some are helping them cheat, or why would you say no marshals?

That is how the tournaments used to be.... Ray Scott set things up that way for a while...Mystery Classic and the people were flown out there and given one day of practice and then they had the tournament.  I think Bobby Lane may have won the first one.  I read an article on it a while back but I can't remember it exactly

Someone correct me if I am wrong but if I remember right that is how the first few bassmasters tournaments were done the lake was announced on the plane to the contestants while they were in the air.

thats not a very good analogy. 5 lures would work better than 5 rods in that instance. and if takes more than 5 rods to catch 5 fish then something is not right there and you should revisit everything youre doing...
