Suggestions for my first tournament?

Featured Replies

This isnt a normal tournament its a tournament from the shore. Its september 18 so i have some time to get ready. The winner will be determined who has the biggest fish. Since its on the shore, i cant carry a live well with me so i have to use somthing else. Also is there a special way i should fish instead of fishing for fun?

Do the fish have to be kept alive ? Sounds like a hap hazard way to run a tournament. What are the rules ?

2 fish limit.

1st fish determines the winner. 2nd fish is for tie breaker.

Not allowed to go on a kayak/boat or go wading.

Fish must be 14in or more

I think most guys use a cooler?

thats going to be tough dragging around a cooler full of water and fish plus your gear.

Get a cooler with wheels, and fill it up with lake water.

The best advice I can give you about tourny fishing is to make sure you are organized, prepared, and ready to go once yall officially start!  By taking the time to organize your gear before you fish, you will get alot more fishing time once the event startsm instead of wasting time looking for certain baits, tieing knots, and other managorial tasks!

I spend several hours getting ready the night before my tournys.  I re-spool, rig up several rods with baits that I want to use!  Organize lures and set aside those that I plan to use, etc.

I generally do very well in tournaments and usually outfish my partners and I think that it is because I am more prepared to fish.  I always notice that my line is wet alot more than theirs.  While Im fishing, they are messing with their equipment!

Be ready!

I've seen this done. They keep the fish in a cooler with a small battery powered aerator. You have to ice and changed the water a lot though.
