Donating boat for kids fishing tournaments

Featured Replies

Curious:

Have any of you volunteered to donate your boat for youth bass tourneys?  I signed up for the Cincinnati youth bass club and am actually very excited to help get kids into the sport.

Just curious what kind of experience you all have had doing this type of thing.  Thanks for the feedback

Very commendable but you had better check out your liability coverage.

already did.  You need the same coverage as fishing tournaments.  The lake I volunteered for is TM only also

Good for you.

While our local bass club was still around, we used to have a day when we worked with Big Brothers/Big Sisters by taking out many of the kids who hadn't been matched yet with a Big Brother.

Happily, one of the fraternities at the local university took over the program.  It's always been a successful day.

Wish there was people like you in my area. No one wants to donate time or anything to start youth bass clubs in West TN.

I am actually excited to work it.  If nothing else it will be an enjoyable day on the water.  it may be tough not to get a line wet though.

IMO it is imperitive that we continue to bring young people into our sport.  This seems like a good organization and I also have an 11 year old who would love to participate but they are full.

I will keep you posted when the event happens

Our club just started a junior club so this will be our first season.  My two oldest boys are excited to be fishing in tournaments just like Dad.  I just hope they do better than I usually do  :-[

The FLW gets folks to do that for the college tournaments but you drive them around in your boat.

Dear Dewey

We have an exciting opportunity for you to be in the middle of the action at our National Guard FLW College Fishing tournament on Smith Mountain Lake Sunday, March 27. We need volunteers with boats to escort 40 college teams on the water. We will pay $200 for your assistance during the tournament, which runs 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Parkway Marina.

Please reply to this e-mail if you are available to escort one of the college teams. You will drive your boat while the combustion engine is in operation (250 hp Maximum), and the college team will operate the trolling motor and determine fishing locations. Each team will provide their own tackle and related equipment. There is no need for you to clean out your boat.

Please help us make this tournament a great success for our college anglers. Your help is extremely appreciated.

Regards,

Kevin Hunt

I frequently volunterr to be a boat captain for Jr angler tournaments and it has been nothing but an awesome experience.  I would recommend anyone with a boat volunteer at least once.  I have been doing it for over two years now and plan on doing it until mt daughter puts me in an old folks home.
