Memories are made of days like these.....

Featured Replies

Everyone has had days on the water that they'll never forget, so I thought I'd post a few of mine.......

I fished Lake Erie for over 20 years and can remember those times when I landed 120+ smallies...BY MYSELF 8-).   Or....

Taking Joe Hughes from PRADCO Lures out to do some filming.  We had enough in the can in one day to do three shows!   Or...

The day that I dropped a buoy on a slight dropoff in 20' of water.  I never moved 10' from that spot in 3 hours and landed 24 smallies.  The smallest was 3lb, the largest almost 6.  This does not count missed strikes/lost fish.  The lure was a 1/2oz Silver Buddy jigged vertically.    Or....

My first trip to Kentucky Lake in '85.  It was mid-May and hotter than blazes.  Surface temp at 5AM was 80+ degrees.  I spent a week with a topwater tied on and had a hookup on about every other cast the entire week.  This was when there was grass in practically every creek/cove.  Unbelievable fishing.   Or...

The morning I pulled into a small cove landed 20+ pounds on five casts in one 25 yard stretch :)

I've had my share of good times on the water.  These are just a few.  Anyone else?

i havent expeirianced a day quite like that yet but my father has told me of a day he had that was crazy here in NJ. he went fishing probably 15 years ago on a rainy mothers day with a buddy from work. they hit the lake and they could do no wrong. he said the bass were insane and feeding everywhere u looked. they sat in one spot and probably cought  40 largemouth each all around 3.5-4.5lbs. one after another. they eventually went home but it was crazy and unfortuneatly the guy he was with was set on staying put but if it was his boat he would have moved to find bigger ones cause the lake they were on definatly held more. one day if i see a rainy mothers day im goin out there lol.

My grandfather had a houseboat on Cave Run Lake in Ky when I was a kid. For the most part he kept it docked, he had dropped some brushpile in front off the dock. I remember going down there with my brother and 2 cousins. We would stay up all night sitting on the front deck of that boat dropping our lines with minnows pulling out crappie and bluegill left and right. Those were some really fun times. I'll never forget that anticipation of getting to the lake, walking down the dock to the boat. (Actually I still get it when I fish now) LOL. No worries in the world except for how many fish I was going to catch.

my favorite fishing memory is the time that my son, wife and i went out to a small local lake for some fishing.  My son who had just turned 3 pitched a little fit and said he only wanted to fish with "the kind of stuff daddy uses".  im kinda bummed since i wanted him to catch fish and he always has a blast catching em on worms but whatever...  i tie on a jig and grub.  first cast and i hear him hollerin.  i think hes prob snagged but walk over.  his line is going back and forth and he catches about a 2.5 lber.  ive never seen someone so proud to have caught a fish on a lure (except maybe me watching it).  he went on to catch 3 bass that day, the same amount that i did lol.

then a few day later we went to the river.  he had seen me catch bass on a topwater and again wanted to use what i was using.  i was really not happy about the treble hooks but thought what the heck and tied on a floating rapala.  first cast and whammo.  a 2 lb smallie jumped all over it.  it was tough and jacob had his hands full but he got it in.  his face when the fish hit that lure was priceless.  exhileration and such surprise that it bordered on terrified for a second.

anyways those are my two favorite fishing moments.  they arent 100 fish days and the largest bass was around 2.5 lbs but when i think of fond memories they top the list.

The only two things I dont like about living in iowa is the weather and the "smaller" fish compared to the southern states.  One day early this spring i got the itch to try out a tiny local pond in the high wind and freezing-rain  :)  Because im only 14 i cant drive alone yet and mom wouldn't take me so i hopped on my bike and headed out, not having good feelings about the freezing rain or the fish.  I get out there and tied on a 3-8 oz. custom white/chart. spinnerbait with a white colorado blade and caught a 2lb bass on the first cast.  I went on that day to catch a pretty decent amount of bass with the biggest being roughly 4lbs.  I fished till i couldn't feel my hands and decided to have mom come pick me up  :D she wasn't too happy but couldn't believe i had luck.

jdw174 those are some good stories you've got.  hopefully i'll get a chance to pull out 100+ quality bass in a single day sometime, but I'm sure not everyone gets that lucky.
