Went on my first true fishing trip today and didnt get a single bite. Water was about 54 degrees and pretty clear for this lake. Wind was blowing, hard. Although im pretty knew to it, it was almost impossible to use my new baitcaster. I tried every depth from 15 feet all the way up fishing mostly brush piles and some lay downs and docks with a jig (black/blue), spinnerbait (chart/white) and shaky head worm (motor oil and red shad). I was sure one of these would work and got nothing. It seemed as if fish were active (jumping) any suggestions?

Welcome to the boards! Tough question to answer without knowing everything. were you fishing from a boat? What has the weather been like the past few days? Location of the lake? Sometimes, you cant catch fish no matter what you do........Did you try upsizing or downsizing your lure? How bout changing color? Were the fish suspended? You said they were jumping, did you try some sort of topwater? Next time, instead of fishing cover, find the best structure you can find in deep water........I.E........a hump next to the river channel adjacent to a bluff wall......... ;D

Fishing from a dock, weather has been warm and sunny, location = KY, tried a 1/8 ounce and 1/2 oz jig and a 5 and 7.5 in worm in several colors.  suspended i dont know, and yes i tried a spook for a minute with absolutely no success.  no follows, no slurps, no nothing.

oh, and as far as structure there is an old creek channel that I worked the jig(s) around for a while and again nothing.  That was all I really had the option of fishing from where i was standing.
