First Smallie

Featured Replies

Finally catchin some fish up here in Mass. Fished Fl in early March and then the Fork trip. I guess I kinda got spoiled.  ;D Been out for about the past 4 or 5 weekends and only had 1 dink to show for it. Finally this weekend things are starting to heat up.

Went out Sat and caught a couple in the 1lb range. Then at the end of the day caught my first LM fishing Carolina rig using a green lizard. About 3lbs none the less. No pic, forgot the camera.

Went out Sun to a dam of the resevior up here (Quabbin) with a new fishing buddy I met this spring and we had some better luck. He likes live shiners so I rigged up my spinning reel with on of those and let it free swim. Meanwhile I'm throwing an orange tiger stripe Bandit right up against a wall. After about the 3rd cast I get it in a right as I'm pulling it up a smallie come to the top of the water with mouth wide open. Oh boy. So keep casting but stop the retrieve every once in a while letting it float up a couple feet. Caught about 4 smallies that way. All about 1.5lbs. I'm happy though never caught a smallie while trying before. That bite dies down so I start throwing a green stick bait courtesy *** and catch about 4 LM all in the 2.5lb range. All in all a great day. Weather was perfect. Caught about 8 fish in 4 hrs of fishing and catch my first smallie early in the season. Now I just gotta find the big ones.  ;)

Average size LM for the day.
