Good night on Douglas (photos added)

Hit Douglas last Monday night with some friends. 2 boats, 5 people.

Weather was crap when we got there. Black clouds everywhere, occasional lightning, decent chop on the water. But we went out anyway. Storms were 3-4 miles away by my count. Eventually cleared up for a while before getting a few brief showers.

The fish were biting early and late. We had 9 in the boat in about two hours, the biggest around 2-3 lbs. Fishing around point 5.

Ran up the lake through a 20 MPH wind and white caps (thank goodness for my friend's 21 footer).

Got up to the Dandridge bridge, our friends had come upon a pontoon boat just floating down the lake (came very close to hitting it). No one on board, no lights. Just a pair of shoes on the bow and beer & liquor littered all around the boat. They called the fish cops and we waited around till they got there.

Headed upstream of the Dandridge bridge. Couldn't buy a bite for a while, then we got into them again. We got a few typical Douglas fish (12" or so), then we had a bit of fun.

I was sitting in the back almost asleep. I would cast, let the worm settle, the put my chin on my chest and 'power nap'. ;)

I hear my buddy grunt, open my eyes, hear the fish splash, and jokingly say 'It's a giant!!!' (We had been joking about pro fishermen calling a 2 pounder a big one). He replies that it isn't all that big, then it jumps next to the boat.

HOLY MOLY, IT IS A BIG ONE!

I ran and grabbed the net while he tried to keep it hooked up. Took a while to get it into the net, but net her we did.

21", 5 lbs. Really good fish for Douglas. I've got a few photos, but haven't processed them yet.

The five of us ended up with around 50 for the night. Plastic worms (finesse worm, trick worm, Ol' Monster, U-Tail), cranks, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits were the baits of choice for the night.

Can't wait to get back down there next Sat. night for our club's tournament. I feel like I've got a good chance of finishing in the money. Just depends on what boater I draw tomorrow.

You wanted to draw out who I got but your partner is gonna be pre-fishing 3 days.

BTW got an email from Rick if you want some of those Cherry Seed finesse jigs I will probably make an order today.

I don't know if he is going to fish Douglas or not.  His camper is on Cherokee.

I'd love to head down there Friday afternoon and fish with him, but I doubt the old lady would appreciate that very much.   :-/

As much fishing as you've been doing lately and what you told me the other day it probably would not be a good idea to take off on her agian.   ;)

That's the thing, I haven't been fishing much lately.  Heck, I haven't had my boat out in 3 weeks.  :'(

You been on someone else's boat or on the river in a canoe.  ;D

Tan.

That said, I wonder if they make them in pink.  Think of the intimidation factor!
