Sold on wacky rigs.

Featured Replies

Went out this morning to base to fish the pond again. Started with my fly rod trying to catch a few bream. It was slow and I only caught one.  So I decided to switch do a *** bait rigged wacky style.. First cast I catch a dink about 8 inches long. So I moved down the bank and cast out. As soon as I cast I saw a school of about 5-7 bass shoot out from some grass. I get a tap tap and I set the hook. This bass made a fuss, jumping up out of the water about 5 times. I get him up and I think the hook went through the corner of his mouth about 5 times he was on there good. This was my personal best. It was about 16-17 inches long and I would guess 2.5-3 pounds. The picture didn't do it justice. I keep fishing and catch about 5 more bass, nothing special just a bunch of dinks. I do have a question though. Today I saw a bunch of huge bass cruising the banks. I would guess the biggest one I saw was around 6-7 pounds. I threw everything I had at them and they wouldn't give it the time of day. Any suggestions to that.

Try a fluke. Never used one until this weekend and really picked up some nice fish including a fat 20 incher. Also try T-riggin a trick stick weightless and jerk it. Maybe try a shakey head or 10 inch power worm from Berkley. One more thought is a Fat Ika. Congrats on the fish.

Wacky riggin trick sticks/senko baits are my favorite way to fish em.

Thanks,

I just looked at the pic and it sucks, I tried to resize it in paint and it made it very fuzzy. I will try some flukes, other than that I pretty much tried all of the others this morning. It was as if they had something other than feeding on the mind. The water was real clear and you could see them just swim right by the baits. I was leading them by about 10 feet so it would spook them. As they got  a few feet from the baits I would bounce them a second and let them sit , but I go no luck from them.

Cruisers are hard to figure out for sure :-/. Maybe something non-threatening like a Trick Worm :-/.

Nice fish!  I gotta try that wacky rig more often, I've done it a couple times but haven't had any luck yet.

the wacky rig is my favorite rig mainly because i like the way you can fish it in in one spot for awile when fishing it vertically very good in cover when you are careful

It's my go to rig.  I would venture a conservative guess that 80% of the fish I've caught this year have been on a 5.5", 6" or 7" trick stick, wacky rigged.  BTW, watermelon and pumpkin have been the dominate colors.
