Lunch Break Blues...

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so I went to one of my local lakes during my hour lunch break today. I never catch anything because I only have about 20 minutes to cast so I'm usually running and gunning over as much shoreline as I can (the closest available spot to where I parked). Well today I decided to walk a little more (power walk type deal) and go to this nice laydown I normally fish. I'm looking over to the side of the lake and I see this huge drainage pipe of some sort going smack right across the shoreline and it seems as if the ground drops off a little in front of it. So I take my Mann's Crankbait and I'm casting along side of it after I worked the shoreline for a few minutes.

After about the third cast on this pipe and trying a couple of retrieves I have a bass pulling my bait down. I fought him for 5-6 seconds and then he surfaces. Jumps out head shaking back and forth and my bait flies out of his mouth and the bass dives back down. Incredible, I thought I had a great hookset on him and the Mann's baits have been pulling in some good fish for me lately. Ugh... needless to say not only did I have to go back to work but I had to think about that lost fish. PLUS I had to book it back to make it on time and d**n it was hot outside. It's almost 90 degrees and it's almost mid-october!!! GEEZ! Thought I'd share my tragic story and loss. I'm hitting that spot again tommorrow or Thursday during lunch and getting revenge on that fish!

So it gets better now... I decide I'm gonna hit my local ond this evening after work for 15 minutes since my fiancee is shopping for shoes for the wedding.  I only took my ole with my mann's crankbait tied on.  Eleventh cast I toss it in a swirl where I see a bass cruising the pond by some mats... well.. he hit alright.  I thought I was hung in a weed mat and started to reel in the mess... then a bass explodes out of the water and my pole dips.  I fought him for about 2 minutes u to the rail, some guy fishing there helped me get him up.  He snaps a pic with my camera phone (got my new chocolate phone from verizon last night).  I didn't know you had to press save in order to save the pic.  Get home and I realize what I had done.  Sliding the phone closed deleted the pic he had just taken.  I get home and it's not on there... unreal.

The fish went for 2lbs and 14oz.  Beat my pb by 6oz.  Egh... what a day.  So I have a new pb but it's just a fish story.  Man was he a beauty.  I was so excited.  Got home and my face dropped when I realized the pic was gone.

Well... the story of my day.

congrats on the PB. Sorry you lost the pic though.

Got revenge this morning by chucking my Mann's Minus (frog colored) One outside of a thick bed and SMACK! I pull him in after a couple minutes and he went for 2lbs 4ozs. Not my best but in my top three. Andy if you chuck those things way out there by the time you rotate two or three times with the reel they slam it, thats if you don't get a reaction bite right away. I had two more fish hooked today bigger than the one I caught. One of which actually pulled drag almost for 20 or 30 seconds to mid pond, lost him trying to horse him in, but somewhere along the line I think I let my rod tip get too low and the hook came loose. I swear there are 4-5 lbers in here easy. Anyway, here's the pic:

A very small public pond in the Woodbridge/Dale City area... sorry man this is one honey hole I don't give out info on at least on the forums. If you wanna hook up and try it out sometime I'll show you where it's at. Just this place gets next to no pressure and I want to keep it that way.

gotcha.  ;)

Great spot!  If you like top water fishing, you will love this place.  Nice catch by the Jay!
