RIVER FISHING UPDATE-Thanks Davis, ect.

Featured Replies

So after hearing what a few of you had to say, i went back to the schukill yesterday, and caught my first RIVER SMALLIE!!!

it was only about a pound and a half, but the fact that i caught it literly 2 mins from my job made it worth it.

i tryed the power worm that davis suggested and on 3rd cast i got a nice one in....i only stayed about 25 mins so i only caught one, but i am phsycked.....i can literly fish on my ride home from work!!!

and i did pretty well with the low water, imagine when that water comes back up!!

i fished it with a homemade drop shot (i used abullet weight with a knot.,...lol)

anyway, what you guuys said is right, they wait their by the moving water for prey to come through

THANKS guys

IM ONE HAPPY GUY NOW, fishing within 5 mins, in the philly area, TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!

congrats dude!!

Glad to hear it!!! It sounds pretty similar to the place in my avatar. I'm always cautious on telling people what works for me.........because who knows if the same thing will work in your situation but IMO the smallies just can't help themselves seeing that powerworm (and smelling it) falling through the current with the tail moving. Have fun with em!!!! I get my shot again in April/May. Long ways....... :'(

Next time try it weightless with an offset 3/0 worm hook of your choice and see what happens. :D

Mix up your retrieve. Sometimes fish it like a jerkbait and than pause for a couple of seconds. Really is a versitile worm IMO.

I should try the Little Schukill, it's about a half hour from where I live. I do fish the Leigh for smallies, several times a season. I am going out to the Susqy next week, with my friend Dan, who fishes it all the time, i am looking foward to it.

congrats on your first river smallie. i live for catching smallmouth, especially river smallies

I hear ya. Even a 12" smallie can feel like a monster when he is taking you through those rapids and jumping like crazy. Love it.
