Pamunkey River tournament 10/20

Featured Replies

There was a tournament today out of William's Landing on the Pamunkey River that I really wanted to fish but it's a dang good thing I didn't. The entry fee was $40, which is pretty cheap for a tournament around here, and I was gonna enter but my dad brought up a good point about how we would might as well just write a check for $40 to the winner...

However, even though we weren't in the tourney we still decided to fish the river. Went into Macon Creek first thing and caught a nice fat keeper and lost another beautiful 3lber. fishing weed edges with a Mann's 1-. Got nothing for several hours after that un til we pulled up to a bluff bank just upriver from the first set of pilings and I caught a keeper on an LC pointer 78.

That was it for the day though...the winner of the tournament had 10.71lbs so it's a good thing we didn't enter or we would've been out of another $40.

2 fish of the day.

That's why your dad is a smart person.

How was the ramp?

Water levels OK?

Any crankbait action?

Best I did today was a 14 incher at my favorite pond on a scum frog.

Missed one on the buzzbait right at the shoreline as I was pulling the bait out of the water.

Glad you all caught some on the Pamunkey.

The ramp was just fine, a little crowded but William's always is. The water levels seemed ok in this stretch, however I floated the upper Pamunk from the golf course down to 360 bridge and the water was EXTREMELY low. Water temps however were pretty good, 69-71 all over the river...just a week or three more and those smallies ought to start feedin up a storm.

I caught the first fish on a Mann's 1- fishing those weed edges in Macon, there was bait everywhere in there, and I also lost a nice 3+ at the side of the boat. The other keeper was caught on a LC pointer 78. But saturday made me realize that I really need to talk to some people that catch fish regularly on this river, I'm getting tired of these 2 and 3 fish days while other guys are pulling in 10 and 12lb limits...
