First Bass of '08

Featured Replies

Well, the weather is warming up a tad over here.  It made it up around 50 degrees today so I headed out to the water after two weeks of working 12 hour shifts without a day off.  You would have though it was the middle of June judging by the number of people at the river.  Beautiful day!  No ice left on the water and just a few days ago there was still snow left on the southern sides of the mountains.  I was surprised to find that the water was about 30 inches above it's average level...especially at this time of year.

Anyway, I went out with four rods pre-rigged fishing from the bank.  Threw a floating Rapala (silver F-11) for a while without any luck before switching to a Bass Assassin.  Got one hit on that but missed it, later lost the bait and switched to an *** fluke.  Threw a jig and a Rat-L-Trap for a while before losing both in the rip-rap.  And then went back to the Rapala which pulled in my first bass of the year.  (Sorry, no pics...nothing to brag about anyway...12 oz?)  Anyway, except for the lost tackle, an all around great day just to be outside again.

I'm signed up for a pro-am tournament next weekend.  Hope the good weather holds up for that.  If all goes well, hopefully, I'll have some pics to post as well.

Good luck to all.
