Occoquan River Trip with Chatterfrog

Featured Replies

I took the boat on the Occoquan River today even though the temps were in the mid to high 90s. The ride on the river was like driving through a mine field, there was debris every where floating in the river due to all the heavy rains we received the last couple of days. When I finally got to the spot where my buddy kicked my behind last week, I started fishing. I finally put the chatterfrogs to the test for myself and was very impressed with them. I caught 4 lmbs (all keepers) within an hours time frame. While fishing I noticed a school of long-nosed gar and knew that could mean problems. On my very next cast one of the gar went after the chatter frog and bit right through my line, man I was mad.

The one thing I have to say about using the chatterfrog is the strikes were violent.  The lmbs hit the lure hard and then tried to run with it.  At one point I caught 2 on back to back casts.

After the bite died I moved over to the docks and started pitching swim senkos to the docks with no luck. After about an hour of dead time (no bites) I headed down to the back end of the river and I started fishing lipless crankbaits and managed to catch one striper (1.5lbs). All in all I was out for only a few hours yet it was a very productive couple of hours considering the circumstances.
