Hit the salt this morning....

Featured Replies

Met my friend Richard down at the dock this morning at 4:30 for a trip around Newport on his center console. Started off throwing topwater for Stripers and Blues. Landed about half a dozen nice bass that were an inch short from keeping (and one that was 1/2 inch short). We got one that was 30"..... Kept a few big Blues, and missed a ton more fish that would boil on the popper, but wouldn't commit.

After the topwater bite cooled off we started a drift going for some Fuke. I ended up catching 5 keepers while my buddy Richard and his friend caught 6 apiece.

Nothing like fresh Fluke for lunch and Bass on the grille for dinner...

Great picture!!

Thats an awesome catch, makes me wanna hit the salt for some dinner of my own. :)

Would like to try grilling those on my grill! FRESH is a real relative word when you live as far as I do from any salt water :P...

Kidding?  Shoot, post hurricane,....easiest fishing ever.  Just bend over and pick them up off the lawn, lol.

Way to hit them Matt, I think I'll be out tomorrow, waiting to hear from Capt. Bob.

Was great today until the wind quit at 9:30. Completely flat water=not good for fluke drifting. But anyway....

Nice stripe bass... im guess that two flownders, nice flownders!!!!

It doesn't get much better than a fried flounder sandwhich......

Nice fish.

Hmm...Tracker or Mako....Tracker or Mako...Tracker.......or....Mako?

Great fish man!

Nice fish, it's an asset to be able to take advantage of the salt from time to time. I get hounded every time that I go to one of the local tackle stores around here. They sell some bass stuff but they try to get me to convert to salt water. I ask them, what's hard about saltwater catfishing? Drop some bait on a wreck and wait. It's fun sometimes but bassfishing is where it's at.

I dunno.... I miss that rush of tossing that big 1oz plug into the surf and having a 10lb Bluefish hammer it.  :) 8-)

Someone's needs a Tuna or Bluefish on light gear ;)

Bottom pounding is only 1 of MANY, MANY aspects of saltwater angling from 30-40 lb stripers on flies and Blues outside your back door balling up bait to 1000lb tuna on 18'-21' boats where the boat/captain are as important as the angler/rod.

Quite honestly, it's a whole different realm (but so is the cost)
