gaining some confidence. updated with new pb

Featured Replies

Went to my cousins pond this morning with my wife for a few hours. I started off with a blck/blue spinner. The first hour the fishing was really slow. About 915 I caught my first bass, a dink about 8 inches long. I kept fishing the spinner by beating the banks around the pond and ended up catching 4 bass on the spinner, the biggest about 12 inches. Then I switched to a 1/4oz spot remover with a zoom junebug finesse worm doused in carolina lunker sauce. Now I haven't had much luck with plastics in the past, but today it was just on. I caught 5 more bass on the plastic with the biggest weighing 2pd 3oz. I made one cast up against the bank and got a bite, went to set the hook and the line just snapped. I also had two fish spit the hook, that felt much bigger than the 2 pounder. I am heading back out this evening for a few hours and will post pics afterward. I am just glad that I am catching fish. The ponds where I live are over fished and tough to get a bite. So this lets me know that maybe I am not doing things too wrong. Overall I caught 9 bass and 1 bream ( on the spinner) and my wife caught a mess of crappie in about 3 hours. I love the dog days of summer.

Sounds like you had a good day, looking forward to seeing your pics.

Soft plastics T-rigged or on a jig are my favorite baits. Every little bit of confidence you gain in yourself is a HUGE help...

Agree with Skillet and might try Carolina rig soft plastics on drop offs to get your numbers and size up a little.

Sorry for the delay in the pics, I am at my mom and dads house and they don't have the software for my camera, I am leaving here in a few hours and will post the rest tonight.

This morning I got out with my cousin about 9am, so far this week I have caught about 55 bass with the most of them being dinks. I caught the 2 pounder the other day and that was it until today. I was throwing a 1/4 oz spot remover in green pumpkin color with a green pumpkin zoom finesse worm. I saw bass busting the banks so I walked down and waited about 5 min and threw out. BAM my line goes crazy, and I use a sweeping hookset. This fish feels really nice. It surfaces and I see the biggest bucket mouth that I have ever hooked. It took me about 5 min to get this girl to the bank. I weigh her and she is exactly 5 pds woohoo a new pb. This is a great 4th. I also want to add that I respooled my reels yesterday with Stren Super Knot in 10 and 8 pd test and the stuff is remarkable for a inexpensive mono. I am stoked and looking forward to tommorow. I know now that I need to get my hookset down because I had a lot of fish spit the hook this week.  I am glad that I can share this joy with you guys. I have just stopped shaking now. ;D

The pic above is of the my pb, I will post the pics of the rest tonight. Sorry the pic sucks it is off my cell phone.

Took you 5 mins to land it? Geeze were you using an ultralight setup?  ;D Keep workin with the plastics; they won't let you down I promise. Congrats on your new PB!!

Yeah that seems like a while, but I had my drag set way too loose and I had about 30 ft to go. Thanks  I am gettting comfortable with the plastics.

I understand. Sometimes it seems the big ones slow time down a bit too!  :)

Thanks all, I have just got back into bass fishing the past year and a few months from saltwater and while it took a while it was most definately fun to catch this gal. I am still excited about catching this bass and really looking forward to a new pb. Hopefully the next few weeks.
