A good day fishing but a bad day with my fishing rod

Featured Replies

I went fishing this afternoon and fished my honey hole. When I got there it was low tide and I could barely paddle my canoe out into the bay. The hydrilla has almost doubled in the last two weeks, man is it thick. Well I decided to throw my usual top water (Ragetail toad) which never lets me down in this bay no matter the time of day. However today I only got three bites and did not land any of them.

I got frustrated out in the bay due to the heat and the heavy mats of hydrilla so I decided to head into the creek since the hydrilla was not as thick. I began throwing a Terminator spinnerbait and on my second cast I caught a nice 2.5 lb lmb. As I headed further into the creek I decided to keep throwing the sinnerbait and within 90 minutes I caught 6 lmbs for a total of 13lbs, the top 5 went 11.5lbs. That would be a top five finish in a lot of the local tournaments here so I felt pretty good. However right as I was lifting my rod so I could lip the last bass my rod tip broke, man was I bummed. It looks like I need to make a run up to BPS and have them replace the rod (a BPS Tourney Special IM7). I will post pictures in a little bit after I get them off my cell phone when it is done charging back up.

I realize it's no consolation, but atleast it didn't break on that "critical" fish.  It sounds like you had fun boating a few though.

Sounds like you had a great Day.... Minus the rod tip... That really sucks, Hopefully BPS will refund it for you. ;)

I heard that they are pretty good with replacing broken fishing rods. I have the receipt and it is only 4 months old so I don't expect to have any problems returning it.

Dad, congrats on putting fish together during a tough low tide.  Looks like you found out that area is productive in more ways than one though.  Glad you at least got the confidence back in those spinnerbaits too.  I told you that Terminator bait was money.  Just have to be throwing it in the right situations.

Anyway, talk to you later.  Check your pms in about 5 minutes.

I'm sure it will be no problem on replacing the rod and good fishing report too Ron.

Big O

Ron,

Way to recover from a tough morning. Sorry about the rod. Too bad we weren't able to get together in the afternoon but I sure needed the rest.

P

Dad,

That third pic is a short FAT fish lol.  Chunkalicious.

Good job out there.  Just hope that luck carries over to this weekend when we go out.

Wow! Nice work out there Ron. Each one of those are nice fat fish! :D

Thanks guys, this place always fishes well.  It produces lmbs in the 1 to 3.5lb range consistently.  I also lost my PB there two weeks ago, it was an easy 7lb lmb.

I average one broken rod a year.  Various reasons.  Mostly though due to some kind of mental error on my part.   Which brings to why I buy Loomis and St. Croix rods.  50 buck replacement no questions asked.  If due to a defect on their part only

$20.00

Bass Pro repalced mine last night. The only problem was they didn't have the same model rod so I had to upgrade from a BPS Tourney Special 7' MH to a Bionic Blade 7' MH rod. I also had them replace my other rod too because the cork was coming off in chunks so now I have 2 new Bionic Blade fishing rods. I will use them tomorrow for the first time. Hopefully I can feel the difference in the rods since they are twice as expensive.
