Duck Duck GOOSE! Has this happened to you?

Featured Replies

Last night after work a friend and I went to a retention pond where the community had just lifted the "no fishing"ban...

Being late in the day both of us were armed with frogs and floating worms hoping for a great BITE.

Unbeknown to us was the fact that among the cattails that so thickly lined the pond, was a family of GEESE.

After many parallel casts we moved, unfortunately I was the one who tried to walk into their "home"!

Not only did they not just let me walk away, they insisted on letting me know just how much they thought of me and my lower extremities. Not only are geese mean they are extremely fast

As for my buddy while laughing the rest of the night, he caught (2) 1.5# lmb,,,,and me, well after the geese stopped telling me off I landed (1) 1#.....

WE WILL GO AGAIN ;)

I have never had any geese chase me but I have had the leader of the pack swim over and "honk" his displeasure that I was on his pond.

I keep away from geese as they are formidable opponents.  ;)

my step-dad was chased into a pond we were fishing once...he was very temped to go get his nine milli lol

Spring 2008 I was shorefishing a little man-made pond, and there's a path about 6 feet wide bordered by the water and a vertical wall about 15 ft high (soon to be a parking lot barrier). I walked through the path and was fishing the other side until dark. On my way back I noticed two geese sitting right on the path. As I approached, one of them started honking at me and flapping his wings. I thought it was funny until he took off and flew straight at my head, honking the whole time. Apparently they had made a nest in that area, and I was unfortunate enough to be able to pass by it when there weren't there, so I was stuck. I ended up climbing the wall where it was lower and walking past them, about 15 feet up. I was sure that if I fell and the fall didn't kill me, that the goose would peck my throat out. I couldn't believe how aggressive the thing was.

I guess it's funny looking back, but it's not funny when you have a large, bloodthirsty goose flying at your head.

Aww man that's definitely funny! ;D Boy, am I glad these guys don't hang out where I fish!

I was at my secret place this spring fishing from my buddies jon boat.  I was working the overhanging trees on the shore and got snagged.  So I trolled over to free myself and hear this loud hiss.  There was a goose on his nest under the tree I snagged.  I didn't even notice him, then he flew straight at me.  I whacked him with a paddle, got my lure, and got the heck out of there.  Next spring I will look a little more carefully when fishing that side of the lake.

I had one attack me when I was trout fishing. He waited till I was chest deep in water. Had to beat him off with my fishing pole. My buds did not see, but an old timer on the bank did. He almost fell into the stream laughing at me. .

Well I am glad to see that I'm not the only one to have fought with them. They a very common around here and are considered by most as pests.

My buddy and I tried again this morning after church and had no luck at all,But even better there were no geese in sight so we were able to fish in "private" ;D
