Private pond trip

Featured Replies

About a year ago my mother moved to an area around Jefferson, NC. It is a gated community where they have a private pond. They stocked it last year and this year we finally get to hit it.

And how did you do?

LOL!!! Wow! What happened to that post?! So... a little background. I have a granfather (the only grandparent I have left). He used to go trout fishing with me, shore fishing, boat fishing...just about anything. Anyway his health has been failing, he can't go trout fishing anymore, very tough to get him on the boat. He has not been out for a few months so being my mothers pond is stocked so well, I took him.

So we were fishing with plastics, which we almost never have done historically, usually live bait. He had some serious difficulty in getting the hook done up. But finally does it. We had our lines in the water about 10 minutes and he pulls in a 3 lber. It fought him really good, must have jumped about 3 or 4 times. He pulls in another right after that, and gets a 3rd a few minutes after that.

We ended up only having 30 minutes total to fish but he really had an awesome time.

It was a week ago and he is still talking about it. With his health issues, it may be the last time I get him back out for a long while, if ever again. I have to say, it was one of the more memorable trips I have gone on in a while.

Wonderful story.

Next time, may I suggest taking a camera?

Memories are so much better when you have some pics to show your children.  ;)

Yeah, you are right, I almost always forget to bring one along and seem to always forget my cell.

I work in the tech sector, so I am thinking part of me deliberately leaves anything that remotely resembles technology at home. LOL!

BTW, good to see someone else up early.

Great job!  Any time like that with parents or grand parents is well time spent.  I'm sure that it meant as much or more to your grandpa than you'll ever know.  Especially slaying them the way he did. :)
