First Bass of 09

Featured Replies

Took my first real trip of the year.  The weather has been great for the last few days, today it was about 70.  I went to a private lake where my buddy lives.  I found the warmest water I could 49* by the end of the day and started chuckin an Excalibur Xrk75.   Today, was a big fish day.  I only caught 5 bass today, and all from the same spot.  I found an area where warm water was running into the lake from a retaining pond.   It was the only spot on the lake where fish were biting.   The first bass of 09 went 6#1oz.  What a way to start the year!!!  I made a few more casts and left the spot.  I returned about 2 o'clock and immediately caught another nice 3.5 bass, made 2 more casts and nailed a solid 5#2oz LMB.  A few more casts and bam another 4# bass.  I finished out my limit with a decent 2# lmb.  All bass came on the XRK75 rattlebait.  I tried a few other baits and had no takers, it must be that knocker in these baits.  The bass loved it.    Unfortunately, in all the commotion getting these big girls in the boat my cell phone took a bath and all my pictures are gone.   :'(  Oh well it was a great day none the less.  May get to go back tom. if I get off work early enough.

Sounds like you started the year RIGHT! (Except, maybe for the cell ;D)...
