Potomac - 10/14/09 New Horizons Club Tournament

Featured Replies

Fished with our club yesterday on the Potomac. Air temp was in the 40-50's most of day, water temp around 57. There was much discussion at the ramp as to were the fish would be; still on the grass or moving to hard structure - rock and wood. The guy I fished with decided to check grass first and suprisingly, they were there just like the summer. We caught most of them on green senko's right on edge of grass. Most were small 12-13 inches, although my partner was able to cull to 11 lbs for 5 fish. We must had caught 50 fish between the two of us and almost all of those came on a 100ft section of the grass bed. After locating it we stayed on it all day. At weigh in half of the members fished grass they other half fished rock and wood. A rock and wood team finished first with 12 pounds and caught on cranks, creatures and worms. ::) Check out New Horizons fishing Club web site. We are a fish for fun club and always looking for new members (non boaters included).

Welcome.

Hope you're here to particapate and just not to drum up members for your club.

Sounds like you pulled it together! Nice tournament

where on the potomac are you fishing? Recently we've been pulling out 15-20# 5 stringers in the weed edges in little hunting and pomonkey

Potomac,

We launched from Leesylvannia and fished the grass beds in that area. If you are catching 15-20lb 5 bass stringers you should be entering some local money tournaments (Warbirds) because those fishe are worth about $1500 bucks and first place. Yesterdays cold front may have something to do with it - but there were no fish over 3 pound caught between about 15 anglers - some who are pretty good.

yes it was difficult fishing yesterday the bite just wasn't on, i was out on the dock for maybe 45 minutes before calling it a day, totaling only 3 fish all under 3# also, all caught on lipless cranks, the day before though was great at pomonkey they were greedily taking gold spinners along the edges at all speeds and depths and in the main channel(7-9'), slow retrieve near bottom.

When is the next tournament?

Yes Mike  Laparelli was the winner ! A new member and making an impression.

Potomac, we have a two day tournament Oct. 24/25 at Lake Anna and then one maybe two tournaments in November to close out the season. Its a fish for fun club, $10/day tournament fee which goes towards our charity events (we sponser Kids fish derbies in the summer). No to low money prize tournaments keeps the fishing fun and friendly among the members. I hear the clubs with money tournaments are quite competetive and a little cut-throat.

LOL Lets do it man, Monday will be the break in this forsaken wet dreary weather. I think though by tuesday the waters should warm up some in the creeks and the bite should be back on. Lets plan for Tuesday the earlier the better

Congrats to Mike! :)

Dan, potomac- if you guys aren't heading out on the jon boat I might be able to squeeze an hour or two. Let me know if you want an extra body crowding up your honey hole.

Thanks for the congrats guys. My partner and I had a good morning last Wednesday, despite the tough weather conditions. We found a nice school of bass during outgoing tide and managed to put enough in the boat for a win. I finished first with 10.8 lbs and my partner took second with 10 even. 3rd and 4th place both came in with about 8 lbs. Most of our fish came on creature baits and craws around wood and rock cover. Alot of the shallow grass had died off in the places we fished, but other members reported plenty of the green stuff in other areas of the river. Many thanks to all the NHBA guys for another great tx, looking forward to Anna this weekend.
