Lake Jackson is back

Featured Replies

Lake Jackson, just outside Tallahassee, has a history of going dry and then filling back up. It just about disappeared down a couple of sinkholes back in 1999. It took nine years for the lake to get back to a point where you could launch a bass boat and run safely.

I got out yesterday morning for a few hours and caught, and released, three bass including this one.

The battery in my scales was dead so I don't know how much it weighed. I caught her on a white Zoom Horny Toad off a group of lily pads. The other two fish came on a Devil's Horse.

Water was about 60 degrees and unbelievably clear.

Nice fish! When you catch a big fish and are getting a pic, make sure to always have the sun shining on you. It won't be as bright.

Hey, I was glad to get that.  I was alone and without a tripod so I set the camera on top of a cooler which was sitting on the rear deck.  I went to get the fish out of the livewell and she was so active she broke the aerator off with all that flopping around.  I kept moving the boat around trying to get the sun in my face and get rid of any backlighting.  By the time I got this photo the fish had been out of the water longer than I was comfortable with so I turned her loose.  Better that I have an inferior picture than a dead bass.  ;)

Nice looking fish you got there.

Nice fish and don't worry about the lighting.  Sometimes it is what it is...

Great to hear that its back!

I lived off Miller Landing  and across the lake on Little Osprey drive for a few semesters while attending FSU and from 93-97.  The fishing was good back then, I would wade fish around Miller landing for weeks until a FWC officer advised me that I was just gator bait  :-?.  Anyway, I never caught a monster, but could consistently catch 2-5 lbers.
