Another Northern VA betty

Featured Replies

Weather was hot, blue bird skies, and no wind. Made for a rough afternoon. Tuesday morning and 4 other boats out so not too bad. Caught this 6+ lb. betty though. She was busting out of that belly. Not ten pounds but c'mon, this is always fun. Gave me quite the fight.

very nice karate kid! What'd you catch her on?

I never heard of a bass referred to as a betty.

Man can you catch'em..... just awesome shimmy!

Uhh, that is a pig!! Nice fish!! Oh I mean a "Betty" - I like that one.....who cares if it aint a 10 lber - the whole ten pound or DD bass craze is just an arbitrary benchmark - its all about catching bigger fish in general that I go for and 6 lber is a NICE FISH!!  Having said that I want to catch a DD bass  :D

Big Bait Theory?  Did you catch her on a big swimbait or such?

PS - I have family in Reston man - you will have to give me a couple tips on fishing spots to take my brother in law fishing while I am up there some time.

Swimbait, not on this one. The NOVA gang had a dispute over what size is best to stick with. I took the stance of make what ever your using and supersize it while some others talked about there stinkos. Yes every once in a while they can catch big bass but i just hate to use them. So, these bass are not gettin pulled on a 3 inch sinko i can promise you that. I think the main thing is, the spring prespawn to spawn patterns change everyday, even throughout the day and is a nightmare if you try to find a daily pattern. So, the best bet is to forget about numbers and stick with bigger lures and fish good lookin prespawn locations and spawning spots. I think what helps me is i'm not afraid to get skunked. Thats why i am not interested in tournament fishing cause i just don't care about the limit and find it pointless to go for smaller ones when the bigguns don't seem to be biting. But, just my 10 cents and anyone who likes the smaller ones that's perfectly fine.  I just won't switch my lure if they're not biting cause there is always one that might.

well done bro!

Very well done . Was this on the potomac or a local lake ? And you can def come fishing with me anytime  ;D

no i wouldn't no the first thing to do if i launched on the potomac. Well, first off, i would probably sink. The raft i fish out of is out of commission temporarily as i patch her back up. These are just the local public lakes within 70 miles of Falls Church. I am slowly learning these and have learned through default where not to go on some of these lakes. Gets annoying trying to learn a lake. A lot of time spent where no fish live. Moved here in October so i have just barely been trying to learn these. I hope you have been killin em on the Anna. Yeh, you ever want a partner, i'd love to go.
