Finally Into Some decent Fish

Featured Replies

Lately around here the bite has been on, but there all super dinks. Lots of 5 and 6 inch fish and one 1 lbr. Yesterday all that changed. I saw the first bedding bass of the year. I'm really not that into bed fishing around here as most of the time it really sucks. Normally you can't see anything and when you find a pair spawning they are impossible to catch. So, I saw this male on a bed yesterday and I couldn't get him to get any jigs/softbaits... So just for giggles I put on a 5 inch River2Sea nest raider. At first it doesn't trigger any reactions so I tried something different. I brung the bait straight in front of the basses nose, and he engulfed it! This happened 3 times but no hookups because of the un-needed weed guard on the bait. So, i took the weed guard off and BAM. Fish hooked, landed and released. He was the first decent fish I've had this year and weighed 2 lbs 14 oz.

Here's a pic, it's poopy cell phone quality sorry ;D

Today I went back to the same place the male was yesterday and there were two bass there this time. The female was only slightly larger than the male but I figured I'd Give it a go. The male was smart again and didn't even sniff the nest raider, but after about 10-15 minutes the female just couldn't take it anymore! She weighed just over 3lbs.

Here's a couple pics, I know laying them on the ground isn't good but I was alone and wanted a pic so I made sure the grass was healthy and wouldn't harm the fish's slime coat.
