Nephews birthday trip...

Featured Replies

wasn't very good!  He turned eight today so I took him this morning out in the boat.  He was the only one to catch a fish, and it wasn't even a bass!!  I set him up with a weightless fluke on my spinning rig.  We were fishing a chunk rock shoreline.  He threw it up near the rocks and after one or two twitches he had this little baby on.  Honestly I don't know what it is!  It looks to me like and ordinary sunfish, however rather fat and with a mouth like a bass.

The fishing wasn't good, but we had a major breakthrough!!!  He made his first casts with a baitcasting reel.  He used my Revo on a custom MH rod with a Spro Bronze eye frog.  Only one birdsnest!!!  I let him make about 20-30 casts and he was getting distance about half of what I get on an average cast.  The one birdsnest he did get was a freakin doozy!!  Took me about 10 minutes to pick it out.  Anyway after that went and got the wife and his brother and went back to the lake and swam for a while then off to Pizza Hut for supper.  With all his stuff he got and all this, I say he had a good birthday.

Thanks for lookin!

Nice Cliff! Looks like a pretty washed out Green Sunfish to me.

Thanks.  I guess the sunfish down here in the south inherited a "bass mouth" or something.  Up north where I am from a sunfish that size you could barely get your thumb in its mouth!  Either way it was fun.  And he has been sure all day long to let EVERYONE know that I didn't catch any fish!

That's excellent Red, and your nephew will remember this fishing trip for years to come....
