SO CLOSE

Featured Replies

Well I was this close again to landing my first double digit bass! I was fishing some heavy lily pads and some duck weed, I went into this little cut and cast my brand new spro popper frog into the twitched it twice and she SLAMED it! The hit startled me some but seeing that huge whole where my little frog was ( about 3ft across) I set the hook as hard as I possibly could, I had the fish on for about 5-6 seconds when I made the one huge mistake in trying to reel in the fish quickly to get him out of the cover I drop my rod a couple inches to reel in more line, however the put about an inch of slack in the line and the fish was gone :( :( :'( :'(

I know that hurts! Keep your head and before you know it you'll get a shot at another one. ;)

Chin Up friend...all's not lost  ;) you know her where abouts now. Just remember, big fish have big boney jaws and need a sharp hook and heavy hook set to penetrate'em. Then alot of luck to finally land'em

Thanks guys. And believe me I WILL be going back there soon. I think I know what my next game plan will be; I am going to use my longer, heavier rod and I have bent the hooks slightly out on the frog for better hook ups. Also I am going to stand on my poling platform when ever possible so I can get high above the water and get the fish up and out of the weeds quickly.

Sorry to hear you lost her but now you know shes there!!  You'll get her!! Good luck!!

I'll make you feel better. I've never caught one over 10lbs, and I had one roughly 10-12lbs right to the boat after a minute battle horsen her with my 50lb braid, my double palomar knot pulled through the eye of my hook. I now only purchase the reaction hooks with the welded eyes when I fish my big rigs. It was a bitter sweet tho, as I actually got to see the fish I've been wanting to catch, but bitter obviously that I lost it. Honestly I couldn't believe the knot came through like that. THe only picture I got was the one I took of my knot in perfect shape to send to my best friend along with the story about the FISH I lost.
