Lake Frederick - between Winchester/Stephens City VA

Featured Replies

It got up to about 45 degrees outside today and, although I knew the water was still way too cold to get much biting, I just had to get out there for a little bit. I tried something called Float-and-fly that I saw on a Finesse Bass DVD last night. I tied a hair crappie jig about 10' below a small bobber. I was casting out into 15' to 20' deep water, where a channel came out of a cove into deeper water. I didn't get any bites but it was still nice to get out there. Still ice on at least 2/3rds of the lake. Man how I miss Florida. What are some of you all doing to catch Smallies in real cold water?
