Wooden Vamps

Featured Replies

Hey there...

I was wondering if there are any fishermen out there using wooden vamps to catch bass.  I think they work great, but was wondering if anyone shares my opinion.  I'd like to hear your experiences.

Thanks

What is it? got a picture? Web page?

I'm talking about the old wooden Heddon vamps.  They're a casting/crankbait.  They run about 18 inches to 3 feet deep depending on your retrieve.  I actually make some quality reproductions myself.  A lot of guys used them muskie fishing, but they work great for bass too.  I usually plug the shoreline or weedbeds and do pretty well.

I'm not here to solicit business so I'm not going to post my website (you can click on the little house under my name ;))  I'm more here to see what's working out there and to let folks know that I catch a lot of nice bass on vamps.

Ahhh now I know whatcha talking about! I think I own about three of the original ones and 15 to 20 of the smaller ones river runt style. They sit in a case collecting dust with the other old lures I collect. I can't say that I have ever used any of them but I can remember my Dad has caught a bunch of fish on them.

You oughta dust those suckers off and give them a whirl!

I'd like to hear from you guys about which color combos and designs are your favorites and what works for you. I make lures and I could use some ideas.
