wireless (miniature) fish finder

Featured Replies

Has anyone everr used the  Hummingbird® RF 10 Mobile Station SmartCast Fish Finder.  This is the fish sinder where you attach the sensor to your fishing line and cast out, up to 100' and it sends bach a signal to a miniture station on  your boat.  Used to send back a signal to a wrist watch type screen.    If so, how well does it work, and what circumstances have you found it works best in.  Does it work in choppy water? ??? ???

I haven't used it personally, but I have talked to several people who have. Most of them said it is only good for telling you the depth and finding some structure and only if the water is calm. That is why I don't have one.

Good for ponds and lakes when it is calm, they aren't too great in choppy water. They mark fish surprisingly well and are good for depth and large structure, but aren't too detailed as you would expect of a little unit like that. They are worth the money if you fish a lot of calm water, or ponds or from the bank.

(I don't have one myself but a good friend of mine has one and we have used it together often when launching my car topper boat into small ponds).

I have two of them one with the larger screen and one with the wristwatch reader and i like them.  I haven't had any problems with mine at all.  It shows depth and fish on them.  I like it for telling me the depth in smaller uncharted waters(no topo maps).  I was waiting till the ice is on to poke holes and chart the bottom to see were the dropoff's were and how the bottom tapers off and where the holes are but them humingbird sure made me an awesome tool!!!  Before i had it i must have made 1,000 casts in one of my hottest spots one early spring day when it was still cold out and i caught no fish.  That night we purchased our first one and the next day we tried it on a windy rainy day and it showed no fish were there yet at all. I like having them and i think their worth the money.
