BASS Insider

Recommended Posts

So what do you guys think about BASS Insider?  Over the years, I've seen less and less of the tips and techniques types of articles in BassMaster magazine and then they come up with a "new level" of membership that one can purchase.  I think it's alot of BS, personally.  Just another way to get money from folks.  Take away the how-to stuff from their magazine and make it so that you have to pay to be able to view it.  That's "the man" for ya.

how many new how-to tips does one guy need. Have yiou heard their are no more secret spots or secret baits in bass fishing. If you're a pro then you can fish prototypes and get a new bait before it comes out. But to a weekend angler or an angler wh does have big name sponsors you get what every one else can get. In order to better yourself you need to learn how change the action of those baits and fish them different. Give yourself an edge. magazines can teach you the basics but they can't make you better than the other guy. It's all about your own originality. That's why pulling out an old bait catches more fish than the new trendy bait. It's different than what they're used to seeing. instead of using a 3/8 or 1/2oz tandem willow leaf blade spinnerbait in chartruse and white use a 1/8oz spinnerbait with an oklahoma blade and that has the same skirt. It's all about throwing what everyone else probably isn't. Everyone see's those articles in Bassmaster magazine and they all go out and apply it.

Nick,

The more information one can gain from others about technique, baits, presentations, etc etc etc, the better.  If one can expose himself to the broadest range of angling knowledge possible, the better off that person is when it comes to making decisions concernining the when's where's and what's of locating and catching bass.  I read just about every article I can get my hands on and try to put what I read into practice or at least just take it into account when on the water.  Even what you said about how big a difference changing the subtlest of details w/ your bait can make has been the subject of countless articles, the kinds that I enjoy reading.  Those types of things can be put into magazines and the like.

Rogue, To what extent do you agree/disagree?

Well, what I mean is I love and am proud of being a member, but Bassmaster seems to be more of a Bassmaster Tour "fan" magazine than a "how to" mag.Granted, there are still some good articles. As for the Bass Insider,I agree with you .I was assuming that just being a member was good enough for me to get their"best" info.Since going corporate(ESPN=ABC=Disney),they do seem to care an awful lot about that extra dollar to be made.

If I need to buy a new bass insider subscription to get great information. Then why the heck do I have a BASS membership? Why isn't the Bass Times or my Bassmaster magazine have the great information? I thought that was why I became a member and that was what I was paying for. Now they are saying that there is more advanced stuff in a bass insider subscription? I thought they gave the same sales pitch for Bass Times, Ultimate Bass Fishing Library, and Bassmaster University.

I totally agree.  Not living in California, the articles about fishing huge jerk baits just doesn't get it done for me.  I have begun to notice more and more articles that seem tailoered to fishing in parts of the country that I don't live in -- maybe this was true for people in the Northeast for years, but even that has begun to show up.  I have thought that maybe they need to start having a regional section in the magazine (I believe Outdoor Life or one of those does this already) just to make the publication more applicable to those of us that are stuck between the coasts and not close enough to the Gulf.  As of the "Insider" it really doesn't matter to me, I have been trying to log on for months now and they won't accept my member number so I have just given up.
