i live in southern california and most of the lakes down here are heavily presssured. i was wondering if anybody could give me some tips on how to fish jigs effectively in these kind of conditions and what size, color work best. trailers?most of the lakes have some cover with lots of points. also do jigs work best on afternoons? :

I use jigs on a year round basis. The color you should use depends on your water clarity and forage base. I have lots of stained water in my location and I opt for a simple black jig with a black trailer. I make my own baits. Without knowing your conditions it is hard for me to provide and specific info that can help you out.

Since the lake is heavily pressured try the Eakins Jig, it is a smaller profile jig but will still catch the hawgs. You will also want to some 12-15 pound test flurocarbon that is nearly invisible under the water. I tend to stick with brown/chartreuse or black/blue for colors. As for trailers I would definitely recomend them, just about any plastic trailer with similair colors of the jig will work. Last of all jigs will work all day long.

thanks for the info, i tried fishing a green 1/8 oz. jig with a crawworm trailer this morning with no results

the water that i fish in is stained with bluegill and shad as the main forage. do u use a porkrind trailer when flippng into cover or a crawworm trailer? what kind of retrieve do u do when u fish points? dropoffs? hopping retrieve? slowrolling? do u use attractants?

Try a skinnybear bass jig, its based in california, ITs smaller than an eakins jig and i have used them for smallies and had good fortune, never tried them for largies but i have seen pics of the fish they catch on these jigs, I use smelly jelly or BANG Scent on my lures
